The last freeze killed the begonias this week. I know it's winter in the garden now.
The way I look at it is that this is not an end...it's a beginning. The perrenials are at rest...all the work is up to me now...cleaning up, mulching, turning soil, and planting bulbs. The garden worked it's ass off all summer and fall...now it's my turn.

You are right. The garden is cyclical for a reason. Time to rest and plan.
I used to clean up the winter garden like a fiend, until one of my wise old neighbors told me to let it be. The birds love the seed pods left from last year's coneflowers and sedums. My biggest lesson right now, as a matter of fact....may be "just let things be". I'm working on that.
Merry Christmas, T.
But then, here in Atlanta where it is so humid in the summer, disease and fungus can kill some plants in a heartbeat. I went chemical free last year, and I lost a lot of plants. I'm coming up with some alternatives for this next season...like there are "good" funguses that eat "bad" funguses...or is that "fungi"? Anyways...I'm still going chemical free growing next year, but a little smarter..and with the help of people that know a lot more than I do. Am I boring you YET?
